Dr. Utkun Aydin

Biography

Utkun Aydin is a Lecturer in Initial Teacher Education with a focus on Mathematics Education at the University of Glasgow. He was born into a family of educators and completed his elementary and secondary schooling at TED Zonguldak College in Turkey. He earned his B.S. degree in Mathematics from Ankara University in 2002 and subsequently pursued a Master’s degree in Secondary Science Mathematics Education. Aydin completed his graduate studies as a research assistant at Middle East Technical University, achieving both his M.S. and Ph.D. in Secondary Science Mathematics Education. His professional experience includes serving as an Assistant Professor at MEF University and working at the American University of the Middle East in Kuwait, where he significantly contributed to curriculum development and school-university partnerships. His research interests encompass mathematical thinking, geometry knowledge, test development, metacognition, and test anxiety, with a specific interest in data analysis methodologies. Aydin is currently involved in a research project exploring the effects of math anxiety on middle school students' problem-solving skills using behavioral neuroscientific methods. He is an active member of several professional organizations, including the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the National Council Measurement Education Association, and has received multiple awards for his publications from Turkish scientific committees.
