Biography

Uwe Schäfer received his Diploma and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from RWTH Aachen University, Germany, in 1984 and 1989, respectively. He worked as a scientific assistant at the Institute of Electrical Machines of RWTH Aachen University from 1985 to 1990. Following that, he was employed as a development engineer at AEG Corporation from 1990 to 1994. From 1994 to 2003, he held positions at Daimler Chrysler Corporation, serving as a research manager for electrical drives, where he was involved in innovative projects such as the Ruegen EV test, transverse flux motor development for rail vehicles, and advanced hybrid-vehicle development. In 2004, he joined Stuttgart University, Germany, as a professor in electrical energy conversion. In 2006, he moved to TU Berlin, Germany, where he is currently a professor in electrical drives. His current research interests include electric propulsion systems for surface transport, small electric drives, and generator systems for wind power.
