Biography

V. Piai is an Associate Professor in Neuropsychology at Radboud University, affiliated with the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition, and Behaviour. Her research primarily focuses on understanding the neural bases of language through behavioral and electrophysiological methods, especially in neurotypical and neurological populations. Dr. Piai investigates the intersection of language functions, attentional control, (semantic) memory, and motor control in speaking. She works extensively with various patient populations, including those affected by stroke, brain tumors, and neurodegenerative disorders, with the aim of developing novel diagnostic tools and methods to improve the language capacity of patients. Among her notable research themes are language communication and the neural mechanisms that govern memory access in language processing. Piai has received multiple awards, including the Frye Stipendium for promising female researchers and grants from NWO to study neuronal oscillations and neuroplasticity related to language.
