Dr. V Venkiteswaran

Biography

Venkatesubramanian Kalpathy Venkiteswaran is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomechanical Engineering at the University of Twente. His research focuses on the application of mechanical design principles to develop novel devices for minimally invasive interventions and robotic surgery. His expertise includes the design of small-sized interventional devices that use magnetic fields for control. He previously worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Surgical Robotics Lab at the University of Twente for two years. He completed his doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering at The Ohio State University, USA, where he focused on design principles of compliant mechanisms. Venkiteswaran's current research interests involve enhancing the dexterity of laparoscopic robotic surgery tools, developing soft robotic devices for targeted interventions that utilize ultrasound sensors, and exploring new solutions to medical problems using smart materials that exhibit magnetic responses, shape memory behavior, and enzymatic responses.
