Dr. V Joseph Hotz

Biography

V. Joseph Hotz is an Arts Sciences Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the Sanford School of Public Policy, Duke University. He has an extensive educational background with a Ph.D. and M.S. from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and a B.A. from the University of Notre Dame. His research interests span applied econometrics, labor economics, economic demography, and the economics of the family. Hotz's studies have critically examined the effects of social programs, such as welfare-to-work training, and the relationship between childbearing patterns and labor force participation among U.S. women. He has published extensively in leading academic journals and has been integral to funded projects by organizations like the National Institute of Health and the National Science Foundation. Throughout his career, Hotz has taken on roles as a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research and the National Poverty Center. He is also a member of the National Academy of Sciences' Committee on National Statistics and a Fellow of the Econometric Society. His work has contributed significantly to the understanding of the impacts of economic policies and behavior on family dynamics and labor markets. Hotz continues to be recognized for his scholarly contributions and ongoing research.
