Biography

Vagn Lundsgaard Hansen is a Professor Emeritus of Mathematics at the Technical University of Denmark. He earned his master's degree in mathematics and physics from the University of Aarhus in 1966 and completed his PhD in mathematics at the University of Warwick in 1972. His academic career includes positions as an assistant professor at the University of Aarhus, a research fellow at the University of Warwick, and an associate professor at the University of Copenhagen. Notably, he served as the Scientific Director of LearningLab DTU from 2005 to 2008 and was a visiting professor at the University of Maryland in the fall of 1986. His research interests encompass mathematical education, the history of mathematics, and topics in topology and geometry. He has authored books including 'Geometry Nature' and 'Shadows Circle'. Hansen has been recognized for his contributions to mathematics, serving as the Chairman of the Committee Raising Public Awareness of Mathematics for the European Mathematical Society and as a member of the Danish Academy of Natural Sciences. He has received numerous honors including the G.A. Hagemann Gold Medal in 2011 and is a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society.
