Dr. Vaidy Swaminathan

Biography

Vaidy Swaminathan is a Senior Lecturer at Monash University, specializing in the field of psychiatry. His research interests primarily focus on developing biomarkers for psychosis and understanding the clinical trials associated with these developments. He possesses specific expertise in signaling pathways related to schizophrenia and psychopharmacology, including the mechanisms of action of psychotropic drugs. Additionally, Vaidy is involved in investigating cognition in schizophrenia and the genetic factors associated with psychosis. He supervises PhD and Honours students in both lab and clinical research settings, particularly in the realm of determining biomarkers for psychosis. Beyond his research engagements, Vaidy also plays an active role in clinical activities as the Director of Adult Psychiatry at Monash Medical Centre, ensuring high standards in psychiatric education and training. He coordinates multiple teaching units for Monash medical students, showing his commitment to enhancing psychiatric education. Vaidy completed his PhD at the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health and holds various medical qualifications, including an MD in Psychiatry and MB BS from the Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research. His work is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, contributing significantly to education and mental health advocacy.
