Biography

Vaira Vikis-Freibergs has conducted research on various issues ranging from psychopharmacology to psycholinguistics. Her written works have documented her achievements. In teaching, she has delivered courses in clinical psychopharmacology, cognitive psychology, and psychological theories. Her excellence in both research and the promotion of literature from her home country, Latvia, has been acknowledged through several prestigious awards. Additionally, she was awarded the Medal of the Latvian Academy of Sciences and was named an officer of the Order of the Three Stars of the Republic of Latvia. She has received two honorary doctorates from Queen's University (Ontario) and the Latvian Academy of Sciences. She is the president of the Academy of Letters and Human Sciences of the Royal Society of Canada, and she has served as vice president of the Council of Sciences of Canada, president of the Advancement Baltic Studies Association, as well as head of the NATO Scientific Program. She is a fellow of the Canadian Psychological Association.
