Professor Dr. Val Fajardo

Biography

Val Andrew Fajardo is an Associate Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at Brock University. He holds a Canada Research Chair in Tissue Re-modelling and Plasticity throughout the Lifespan. His research focuses on the mechanisms underlying muscle wasting conditions such as muscular dystrophy, the effects of aging, and the challenges associated with spaceflight. Fajardo's work also explores muscle metabolism and muscle-based thermogenesis, specifically its impact on obesity and type 2 diabetes. Currently, he is investigating the inhibition of glycogen synthase kinase 3 through clinically relevant drug discovery and the characterization of calcium regulatory proteins. He has published extensively in reputable journals, contributing to the understanding of muscle remodelling in health and disease.
