Biography

Valentin Bearth graduated in Architecture from the Polytechnic of Zurich, where he was under the guidance of Dolf Schnebli in 1983. He began his professional collaboration with Peter Zumthor's practice, which marked the beginning of his significant contributions to architecture. In 1988, he co-founded the Bearth & Deplazes architectural practice alongside Andrea Deplazes, establishing offices in Chur and Zurich. The firm became well-known for its numerous housing projects and public works, as well as schools, gaining recognition both within Switzerland and internationally. Notably, Bearth's work was acknowledged when he became a finalist for the prestigious Mies van der Rohe Award in 1999. Additionally, from 1997 to 2000, he served as a member of the Federal Commission for the Protection of Monuments in Switzerland, further showcasing his commitment to architectural preservation and innovation.
