Biography

Valentina Caldari is a Director of Studies in History at St Catharine's College, University of Cambridge, where she has been a fellow since September 2018. She completed her joint PhD in History at the Universities of Kent (Canterbury, UK) and Porto (Portugal). Prior to her current position, she served as a Departmental Lecturer in History at Balliol College, University of Oxford. Her research interests lie broadly in political and diplomatic history of early modern Europe, with a particular focus on the interactions between England and the Iberian Peninsula during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. She convenes the Early Modern World Workshop Seminar alongside colleagues interested in early modern European world history. In her teaching, she delivers lectures and supervises students on topics spanning early modern European world history, including substantial projects focusing on early modern Spain and its overseas empire.
