Biography

Valentina Mazzucato is a Professor of Globalisation and Development at Maastricht University, where she has led her research program since 2012. Her expertise lies in migration studies, examining the effects of migration between Africa and Europe through a transnational lens. Mazzucato has overseen five international projects focusing on transnational migration and collaborates with both European and African universities. She was elected to the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and has served on the Steering Committee of NWO-WOTRO Science for Global Development. Mazzucato was awarded the ERC Consolidator grant for her project 'Mobility Trajectories of Young Lives: Transnational Youth in Global South and North (MO-TRAYL)'. She has delivered numerous keynote speeches at academic and policy-oriented events and has taught at both undergraduate and graduate levels at her faculty. Mazzucato completed her BA in Political Science and French Literature at Williams College, her MSc in Agricultural Economics at Michigan State University, and earned a PhD in 2000 from Wageningen Agricultural University. Her research incorporates mixed methods and aims to deepen the understanding of migration dynamics and their impacts on families and communities.
