Dr. Valentina Perissi

Biography

Valentina Perissi is an Associate Professor at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, specializing in Biochemistry & Cell Biology. She earned her PhD in Molecular Pathology from the University of California, San Diego, after completing her undergraduate and Master's degrees in Molecular Biology at the University of Torino in Italy. Prior to her faculty position, she completed postdoctoral training in Epigenetics, Endocrinology, and Metabolism at UCSD in Dr. Geoff Rosenfeld’s lab. Her research interests focus on the intersection of cell and molecular biology, with an emphasis on mitochondria-nuclear communication as it relates to metabolism and epigenetics. The Perissi Lab investigates the molecular mechanisms governing metabolic adaptation and cellular differentiation, employing a range of techniques including CRISPR editing, gene expression analyses, and various sequencing methods. She is actively involved in the Boston University-BMC Cancer Center and the Genome Science Institute as an educator and mentor for graduate students, underscoring her commitment to academic mentorship and research.
