Biography

Valeria Riedemann originally from Chile, began her studies in Philosophy, Aesthetics, and Art History at Universidad de Chile, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy in 2004. She pursued a Master’s degree in the Theory and History of Art, supported by a Chilean Government scholarship (Becas Chile), which allowed her to continue her graduate studies in the United Kingdom. Valeria obtained a Master of Arts in Comparative Art Archaeology from University College London in 2010 and completed her Doctor of Philosophy in Classical Archaeology at the University of Oxford in 2016, with a thesis entitled "Greek Myths Abroad: Comparative Regional Study of Funerary Uses Fourth-Century BC Apulia Etruria". She has been a member of the British School at Athens since 2010 and was a Wiener-Anspach Fellow at the Research Centre in Archaeology and Heritage at Université Libre de Bruxelles in Belgium in 2014. Valeria has excavated in Italy and Turkey, and she has authored numerous research papers, articles, and book reviews related to Greek, Apulian, and Etruscan art. In summer 2023, she was awarded the DAI-AIA Research Fellowship by the Deutsches Archäologisches Institut in Berlin to work on her upcoming monograph on Funerary Amazonomachies in Pre-Roman Italy. Currently, she serves as an Affiliate Instructor at the University of Washington's Department of Classics and teaches courses in Art History, Anthropology, and Visual Communication at Northwest College of Art & Design in Tacoma.
