Biography

Valerie Wilson studied for her PhD in Dr. Martin Evans' lab in Cambridge from 1987 to 1991, focusing on embryonic stem cell genetic manipulation and transgenesis. She then joined Rosa Beddington's lab to work with post-implantation mouse embryos at the Centre for Genome Research in Edinburgh from 1991 to 1992. Following this, she worked at the National Institute for Medical Research in Mill Hill, London from 1992 to 1996, where she investigated the role of the T (brachyury) gene in mouse anteroposterior axial elongation through chimeric models. Valerie moved to Edinburgh in 1996 to establish her own lab aimed at understanding the mechanisms of axis elongation as a MRC Career Development Fellow at the Molecular Medicine Centre, Institute for Stem Cell Research, and the MRC Centre for Regenerative Medicine. Her research group studies embryonic progenitors associated with the central nervous system and skeletal muscles, focusing on how these progenitors are maintained and eliminated during mouse gestation, particularly in relation to axis generation and regulation.
