Biography

Valerio De Stefano is a Full Professor and Canada Research Chair in the fields of innovation, law, and society at Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, Canada, where he has been a faculty member since January 2022. He previously served as a BOF-ZAP Research Professor at the Institute for Labour Law at KU Leuven, Belgium, from October 2017 to December 2021. De Stefano obtained his LLB, MSc, and PhD from Bocconi University in Milan, Italy, where he also worked as a postdoctoral researcher from 2011 to 2014. He has contributed to international law research while working at the International Labour Organization in Geneva between 2014 and 2017. Notably, he has held visiting academic positions at prestigious institutions such as University College London and the University of Melbourne. His research is focused on labor law, employment law, and the implications of technology and artificial intelligence in these fields. He has received multiple grants, including the Odysseus Grant from the Research Foundation-Flanders, and has worked on significant interdisciplinary research projects addressing labor protection for platform workers and in-work poverty. De Stefano is a recognized authority in his area, frequently publishing articles in leading academic journals and serving on various editorial boards including as General Editor for the Comparative Labor Law & Policy Journal.
