Biography

Valgeir Thorvaldsson holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Iceland (2001) and a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Gothenburg (2008). He completed postdoctoral research at the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada, in 2010. He has served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Gothenburg since 2015 and became a full Professor in 2021. His teaching primarily focuses on quantitative methods at both undergraduate and graduate levels. His research explores factors contributing to individual differences in cognitive aging, functional decline, and dementia risk throughout life. Current studies include the impact of cerebrovascular factors on cognitive functioning in old age, as well as the prediction of cognitive decline, dementia, and mortality across different birth cohorts. He has contributed to numerous published works examining aspects of cognitive aging, personality traits, and psychosocial factors that influence cognitive health in older adults, and actively collaborates with other researchers in this field.
