Biography

Originally from Spain, Vanessa Enriquez Raido is a scholar specializing in Translation Studies, with a focus on translator education, translation technologies, and translation-centered information search. She began her professional career in technical translation and software localization at iDisc Technologies in Barcelona, complemented by collaborations with international agencies and European tech companies. Her academic career commenced in 2005 at the University of Auckland, where she taught and conducted research until 2022, later joining the University of Vic – Central University of Catalonia. In January 2024, Vanessa joined the Department of Linguistics at Macquarie University, where her work centers on the integration of emerging technologies in translation. She has extensively taught undergraduate and postgraduate programs covering translation theory, specialized translation practice, AI-mediated machine translation workflows, and empirical research methods in translation. Vanessa has received prestigious Teaching Excellence Awards at the University of Auckland, and maintains strong ties to the industry. As an academic consultant for New Zealand's Language Assistance Services Programme, she contributed to aligning translator and interpreter certification processes with NAATI standards. Vanessa's commitment to research is evidenced by multiple accolades, including the University of Auckland Faculty of Arts Research Award in 2015 and the School of Cultures, Languages and Literatures' Outstanding Research Award in 2018.
