Biography

Vasant Honavar received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1990, specializing in Artificial Intelligence. He is currently a Professor at the Pennsylvania State University in the College of Information Sciences and Technology and holds the Edward Frymoyer Endowed Chair. Honavar is the founding Director of the Center for Artificial Intelligence Foundations and Scientific Applications and the Center for Big Data Analytics Discovery Informatics. His research focuses on foundational contributions in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, emphasizing machine learning, causal inference, and knowledge representation. With over 250 peer-reviewed publications and a significant citation record, Honavar has led numerous federally funded research projects. Honavar has received numerous awards for his research and leadership, including election as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in 2018. He actively participates in professional service roles, including serving on editorial boards for several academic journals and leadership positions in important research initiatives.
