Vasilis Z. Marmarelis received a diploma in Electrical Mechanical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens in 1972 and completed his M.S. in Information Science and Ph.D. in Engineering Science (Bio-Information Systems) at the California Institute of Technology in 1973 and 1976, respectively. He has co-authored an influential book and published over a hundred journal papers and book chapters. In 2000, he invented the 'Multimodal Ultrasound Tomography' system for early breast cancer detection and has worked on various projects concerning nonlinear modeling, medical diagnosis, and neurological issues. Dr. Marmarelis has made significant contributions to the fields of biomedical systems modeling and physiological applications, thereby advancing information processing in the nervous system.
