Biography

Vasily Kantsler is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Soft Matter Biological Fluid Dynamics at the University of Warwick. He joined the department in June 2013 after a prior position as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Cambridge. His research focuses on the experimental investigation of physical phenomena in biological systems. His past work has involved studying the dynamics of fluid vesicles and semi-flexible biopolymers in external flows, as well as mixing suspensions of green algae and the motility of swimming cells. Kantsler primarily employs microfluidics and optical microscopy techniques in his research. Current projects involve the motility and transport control of swimming cells such as bacteria and spermatozoa on micro-structured surfaces in external flows. His research aims to provide new concepts for designing anti-biofouling surfaces and developing novel methods for artificial insemination.
