Biography

Veerle Boel is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Structural Engineering and Building Materials at Ghent University. With a focus on Concrete Technology, her research explores self-compacting concrete, specifically its microstructure, transport properties, and durability. Boel holds a Master of Science in Engineering Technology (Civil Engineering Technology) from University College Ghent (1998) and a Master of Science in Engineering (Civil Engineering) from Ghent University (2001). She completed her PhD in Civil Engineering at Ghent University in 2006. Boel's postdoctoral work included a position at the Magnel Laboratory for Concrete Research. She has served as an Assistant Professor at University College Ghent and later advanced to Associate Professor at Ghent University. Throughout her career, Boel has been active in various technical committees, including RILEM Technical Committees focusing on the durability and mechanical properties of self-compacting concrete. Her contributions to the field have been recognized with awards, including a Best Paper Award for her work on acid attack in self-compacting concrete presented at an international conference in Cape Town, South Africa, in 2005.
