Biography

Velia Cardin is an Associate Professor at the Deafness Cognition Language Research Centre (DCAL) within the Department of Experimental Psychology at University College London (UCL). She obtained her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Research from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and completed her PhD in Neuroscience through the Wellcome Trust 4-year PhD Programme at UCL. Following her doctoral studies, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Royal Holloway University of London and at DCAL. From 2016 to 2019, she served as a lecturer in the School of Psychology at the University of East Anglia (UEA). Her research interests prominently focus on the intersections of deafness, cognition, and language, emphasizing the importance of quality education and good health as part of her alignment with sustainable development goals.
