Professor Dr. Velumani Subramaniam

Biography

Velumani Subramaniam is an Instructional Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University. He specializes in research interests that encompass energy harvesting materials, photovoltaic systems, and photocatalysis. His work includes the development and optimization of micro and nanostructures for application in photovoltaics and sensors. He has contributed significantly to the fabrication and characterization of alternative materials aimed at improving silicon photovoltaic applications. His innovative research also addresses the integration of nanostructured composites made from earth-abundant materials for water purification, specifically in removing heavy metals and organic/inorganic impurities. Velumani has been involved in setting up water treatment plants incorporating advanced technologies for heavy metal removal and PFAS mitigation. He employs simulation tools such as Materials Studio to analyze and compare material properties. Throughout his career, Velumani has received numerous awards, including Young Scientist Award from the Tamilnadu Government, and has served on editorial boards for various scientific journals.
