Biography

Venkat Bhat is an Associate Professor and Clinician Investigator in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. He holds an MD and MSc and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as well as a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Bhat is currently a staff psychiatrist based at St. Michael's Hospital, where he directs the Interventional Psychiatry Program, focusing on novel psychopharmacological therapies including IV ketamine and neurostimulation techniques such as rTMS and ECT. His research interests include understanding treatment responses to emerging interventions for mood disorders. Additionally, he is involved in efforts to offer advanced procedural interventions in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams in anesthesia, imaging, informatics, neurology, and neurosurgery. Dr. Bhat also works with the Depression Centres at St. Michael’s Hospital and Toronto Western Hospital, leading studies on deep brain stimulation and invasive brain mapping for treatment-resistant depression.
