Dr. Venkatesh Kodur

Biography

Venkatesh Kodur is a University Distinguished Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Michigan State University, where he serves as the Director of the Centre for Structural Fire Engineering Diagnostics. His research interests encompass the experimental behavior and analytical modeling of structural systems subjected to extreme fire conditions, with a focus on constitutive modeling and material properties at elevated temperatures. He specializes in fire resistance design of structural systems and the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques in structural fire engineering. Over his career, he has published more than 450 peer-reviewed papers in various journals and conferences, and has received more than 17,000 citations on Google Scholar, with an h-index of 72. He is a fellow of six major engineering institutes, including the Canadian Academy of Engineering and the American Society of Civil Engineers. Kodur has served on various committees and as an associate editor for the Journal of Structural Engineering. He gained significant recognition for being part of the American Society of Civil Engineers' expert team that investigated the collapse of the World Trade Center buildings during the September 11 attacks.
