Dr. Vera Skvirskaja

Biography

Vera Skvirskaja is an Associate Professor at the University of Copenhagen, where she specializes in Social Anthropology. She holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge, where her dissertation focused on the new economic forms of subjectivity in post-socialist Russia. Her research interests encompass post-Soviet society, migration, cultural heritage, and political culture, with a focus on Ukraine, Russia, and Central Asia. Skvirskaja has contributed significantly to the understanding of cultural dynamics in the context of ethno-religious minorities, particularly the Bukharan Jews. She has published extensively on topics such as propaganda, trade practices, and urban markets. Her teaching portfolio includes courses on Russian Culture and Society, Economic Anthropology, and Qualitative Research Methods. She is actively engaged in interdisciplinary collaborations and has served as Editor-in-Chief for the Copenhagen Journal of Asian Studies. Skvirskaja's work reflects her commitment to exploring complex cultural and social interrelations, especially in the aftermath of migration and conflict.
