Biography

Vered Karti Shemtov is a Senior Lecturer at Stanford University in the Department of Comparative Literature and the Middle Eastern Program. She obtained her Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of California, Berkeley in 1999. She has published extensively on Hebrew literature and served as the Director of the Hebrew Project at Stanford. Her editorial work includes being the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of the journal Dibur and previously Co-Director of the Stanford Center for Jewish Studies. Shemtov's research interests include Hebrew poetry, contemporary literature, and the intersection of culture and politics in literary works. She has received numerous awards and grants, such as the Dean's Award for Distinguished Teaching and support for curriculum development from the Newhouse grant.
