Biography

Vered Shwartz is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of British Columbia. Her research focuses on natural language processing, particularly on building models that can achieve human-level understanding of natural language. She is interested in commonsense reasoning, computational semantics and pragmatics, as well as multiword expressions. Before joining UBC, Vered was a postdoctoral researcher at the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence (AI2) at the University of Washington. She received her PhD in Computer Science from Bar-Ilan University in 2019. Throughout her career, Vered has received several awards for her work, including the Eric and Wendy Schmidt Postdoctoral Award for Women in Mathematical and Computing Sciences, the Clore Foundation Scholarship, and the ACL 2016 Outstanding Paper Award.
