Biography

Verena Fetscher is a Departmental Lecturer in Comparative Political Economy at the University of Oxford in the Department of Politics and International Relations and is an Associate Member of Nuffield College. She received her PhD in Political Science from the University of Mannheim. Prior to joining the Department of Politics and International Relations, she was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Hamburg, where she taught courses on political economy, inequality, redistribution, political representation, and comparative politics. Her research focuses on the formation of preferences in political representation. She is particularly interested in how people support higher levels of redistribution than the role of institutional factors and issues of fairness that determine redistributive preferences. Additionally, she explores issues related to female representation and the limited access of women to political power, examining how representation in parliaments has changed in recent years. Methodologically, she combines quantitative observational analysis with experimental approaches.
