Biography

Verity Harte is the George Saden Professor of Philosophy and Classics at Yale University, specializing in ancient philosophy. Her research centers on philosophical thought and writings of Plato, particularly his works, while also encompassing Aristotle and the historical philosophy of the Greco-Roman Antiquity period. She studied Classics and Philosophy at Cambridge University, where she earned her BA in Classics along with M.Phil and PhD degrees in Philosophy. Harte has held research fellowships at St. Edmund's College, Cambridge, and St. Hilda's College, Oxford, and has served as a Lecturer and Reader at King's College London's Philosophy Department before joining Yale's Philosophy and Classics departments in 2006. Her research primarily explores philosophical topics categorized under metaphysics, epistemology, moral philosophy, and philosophical psychology, with an essential focus on contrasting ancient and contemporary approaches. Currently, she is working on a monograph for Cambridge University Press concerning Plato’s Philebus, along with additional research projects related to Plato’s Republic and concepts of memory and pleasure. Harte is also open to advising graduate students on a range of topics within Greco-Roman philosophy.
