Biography

Vern Campbell is a professional engineer with extensive experience in both the manufacturing and service sectors. Vern spent ten years at Manitoba Hydro leading financial planning and a Strategic Planning Quality Improvement Initiative. In 2000, he moved to Northern Blower, a 200-employee custom fan manufacturer serving the North American industrial market, initially as a consultant and then as General Manager. At Northern Blower, he implemented operational excellence principles to achieve dramatic improvement results. Vern also has a consulting practice where he has worked with a variety of sectors including healthcare, manufacturing, human resources & payroll, electric utilities, packaging, education, and regulatory bodies. He addresses strategy planning, executive training, leadership coach development, and operational improvement through Lean Six Sigma training. Vern is passionate about developing people and improving organizations, preparing students for rewarding careers in industry. As an engineer-in-residence, he supports Manitoba’s manufacturing and service sectors by teaching industry-related undergraduate engineering courses with a focus on Operational Excellence, acting as a liaison between industry and the Faculty to promote related activities, and mentoring students in the Mechanical Engineering capstone design course, MECH 4860 Engineering Design.
