Biography

Verónica Martínez Cerdeño received her B.S. in 1998 from Complutense University in Spain and earned her Ph.D. in Neuroanatomy in 2002 from Autónoma University of Madrid, Spain. Following her doctorate, she completed postdoctoral training in brain development at Columbia University in New York and worked with stem cells at UCSF San Francisco, focusing on autism at the MIND Institute at UC Davis Medical Center. She was awarded the prestigious CAMPOS Faculty Scholar Award in 2016. Currently, Martínez Cerdeño holds the position of Professor and Interim Vice Chair in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at UC Davis. She is also a faculty member of the Institute for Pediatric Regenerative Medicine at Shriners Hospital Northern California and is associated with the MIND Institute and the Center for Neuroscience, as well as the UC Davis Stem Cell Program. Her research interests include Autism, Fragile X, FXTAS, cortical evolution, and neural stem cells, specifically their roles in development, evolution, and pathogenesis within the mammalian cerebral cortex. She participates in several UC Davis graduate programs, including Biochemistry, Molecular, Cellular Developmental Biology, and Neuroscience, and is a member of various professional societies.
