Biography

Veronika Kratz is an incoming SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of English at Queen's University. She is a settler scholar whose research focuses on teaching in the environmental humanities and literary cultural studies. Her work is especially interested in the narratives surrounding the environmental crisis and the intersections of cultural life, science, and technology. Her dissertation examined desertification in the context of discourse around drought and how drylands are often (mis)understood. Kratz's postdoctoral research at Queen's engages with the cultural history of the ecosystem concept through the lens of Cold War-era nuclear energy research and the mid-twentieth-century environmentalist movement. This work aims to rethink contemporary approaches to nuclear energy within the context of the climate emergency.
