Biography

Véronique Guèvremont is a full professor at Laval University’s Faculty of Law and holds the UNESCO Chair on the Diversity of Cultural Expressions inaugurated in November 2016 and renewed in 2020. She is co-lead of the ‘Arts, Media, and Cultural Diversity’ axis at the International Observatory on the Societal Impacts of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technology (OBVIA) and co-scientific director of the IVADO research consortium focusing on societal implications. Since 2006, she has taught international cultural law, international economic law, and general public international law. Her research focuses on the legal aspects of cultural diversity and fills a significant gap in legal literature. Recent interests include the protection of cultural diversity in the digital environment, the discoverability of French-speaking cultural content online, the treatment of cultural products in digital trade agreements, and the intersection of culture and sustainable development. She is associated with various research centers and has collaborated with numerous Canadian and international organizations.
