Véronique Serre-Beinier is a biologist and the head of the translational research centre in oncohaematology at the University of Geneva. She graduated as a biochemical engineer from the National Institutes of Science and Technology (INSA) in Lyon in 1991 before completing her PhD in Biology at CEA Grenoble in 1996. Following her education, she worked in the Pharmacology Toxicology Institute under Professor Bernard Thorens, focusing on the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor and beta-cell glucose competence. She moved to the Faculty of Medicine at Geneva in 1998, where she researched gap junction communication in beta cells. In 2003, she joined the Department of Surgery at the University of Geneva, studying pancreatic islet vascularization. As of 2009, she has been involved in basic research projects focused on thoracic endocrine surgery, establishing pre-clinical human models for studying mesothelioma and lung cancers. Her research mainly revolves around the effects of chronic inflammation on the development of these cancers, including understanding macrophage dynamics and their roles as precursor cells in mesothelioma. She has taught at the Bachelor, Masters, and postgraduate levels for over 20 years, sharing her expertise in tumor immunology and pharmacology.
