Biography

Vicki Grassian joined the Department of NanoEngineering at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Jacobs School of Engineering as a Distinguished Professor in 2016. She is also affiliated with the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Prior to joining UCSD, she was a distinguished member of the faculty at the University of Iowa for twenty-five years. Grassian received her Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley. Her research has resulted in over 250 peer-reviewed publications in a wide range of journals covering topics in nanoscience, chemistry, atmosphere, environment, and materials engineering. Her work investigates the applications and implications of nanoscience and nanotechnology in environmental processes, aerosol chemistry, and climate, focusing on the behavior of nanomaterials in biologically relevant media. Grassian collaborates with colleagues to understand potential health effects of manufactured nanomaterials and contributes to the Center of Aerosol Impacts on Chemistry and Climate (CAICE).
