Biography

Vickie Zhang is a cultural geographer whose expertise spans cultural geography, labor, affect, and mobilities. Her current position is as a Lecturer in the Department of Geography at the University of Bristol, where she employs non-representational styles in her research and writing. Her research is categorized into empirically exploring the experiences of economic change among industrial migrant workers through fieldwork in Australia and China. Conceptually, she aims to develop cultural geographical approaches that foreground negativity and exposure in relation to affect and embodiment. Methodologically, she engages in documentary filmmaking and photography alongside her academic work. Before joining Bristol, she was an Assistant Professor at the Department of Geography at the National University of Singapore. She completed her PhD at the School of Geography, University of Melbourne, and has previously spent a year at the School of Sociology, Australian National University. Vickie completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Melbourne, majoring in Geography and German. She was born in Naarm/Melbourne, Australia, to migrant parents from Guangzhou, China, and her research delves into the cascading and contradictory effects of inherited dislocations.
