Dr. Vicky Bungay

Biography

Vicky Bungay is a professor and the Associate Dean of Research Graduate Studies at the School of Nursing, University of British Columbia. She holds a PhD in Nursing and a Canada Research Chair in Gender, Equity, and Community Engagement. Her research emphasizes community-based participatory approaches, addressing socio-economic and political inequities that adversely affect health outcomes. Vicky has collaborated on numerous studies examining the impacts of gender-based violence and stigmatization on health. Serving as the Director of the Capacity Research Centre, she leads initiatives focusing on gender equity. Her academic journey includes multiple degrees in nursing, demonstrating her deep commitment to the field. Vicky has received various prestigious awards for her contributions to health research and mentorship, including the Canadian Institute of Health Research Award Recognition and the John McNeill Excellence in Health Research Mentorship Award. She is deeply engaged in shaping research and training environments that are applied, inclusive, and ethical. Vicky's leadership extends to strengthening connections across diverse departments within the Faculty of Applied Science at UBC, encompassing nursing, architecture, and engineering. Her work aims to foster impactful research partnerships that enhance community well-being and support marginalized populations.
