Professor Victor Adrian Prisacariu received his Graduate degree in computer engineering from Gheorghe Asachi Technical University, Iasi, Romania, in 2008, followed by a D.Phil. degree in engineering science from the University of Oxford in 2012. He continued as a Postdoctoral Researcher, receiving the EPSRC prize, and was appointed as an Associate Professor in 2017, advancing to Full Professor in 2025. He co-founded 6D.ai, which built APIs that enable developers to create augmented reality applications that are meaningful and exciting for users. The 6D.ai SDK uses standard smartphone cameras to construct real-time, three-dimensional semantic maps of the world. This innovative technology was acquired by Niantic in March 2020, where he currently serves as Chief Scientist. His research interests lie in semantic visual tracking, 3-D reconstruction, and simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM). His ongoing research focuses on computer vision methods for real-time augmented and virtual reality on mobile and wearable platforms. He also leads the Active Vision Lab, emphasizing computational vision for applications in location mapping, surveillance, and assistive computing.
