Romero’s research emphasizes law's impact on marginalized groups, focusing particularly on borders and boundaries—legal and cultural—in function. His work includes an analysis of immigration policy and individual rights through the lens of Supreme Court and federal court opinions, particularly post-Brown v. Board of Education, which address notions of equality and discrimination. His inquiries intersect various disciplines, including social sciences and humanities, history, social psychology, critical race theory, and cultural studies, particularly in constructing Filipinx identity. Professor Romero is an elected member of the American Law Institute (ALI) and has authored several books, co-edited a three-volume anthology, and published numerous law review articles, book chapters, and essays. He is also an advisory board member of Penn State’s Africana Research Center and has previously served as president of the South Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the ACLU and the NAACP Greater Carlisle Area. In addition to his academic roles, he served as academic dean at Penn State Dickinson Law and as a visiting professor at Howard and Rutgers. After graduating from USC Law, he was an editor for the Southern California Law Review and worked in private practice and as a law clerk for a federal judge in Los Angeles before beginning his teaching career.
