Biography

In 2009, Victor Yañez-Lazcano shaped an interdisciplinary body of work that chronicles his family's history as U.S. immigrants, focusing on first, second, and third-generation Mexican Americans. His artworks explore the collective identity of the family within the intersections of race, language, class, and labor, while grappling with notions of assimilation. Yañez-Lazcano received his MFA from Stanford University and his BFA from Columbia College Chicago. He has served as a visiting art lecturer at various institutions, including Stanford University, San Francisco State University, and the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. His work has been exhibited in numerous spaces, including the Royal Nonesuch Gallery in Oakland, Natalie & James Thompson Art Gallery in San Jose, Perspective Gallery in Milwaukee, and the Chicago Design Museum. His published works are included in collections at Yale University’s Haas Arts Special Collections, Indiana University’s Wells Library Fine Arts Collection, and Harvard University’s Fine Arts Library Special Collection. Yañez-Lazcano has participated in an artist residence at the RAiR Foundation in Roswell, New Mexico.
