Dr. Victoria Herrera

Biography

Victoria L.M. Herrera, MD, is a Professor at Boston University's Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, where she serves as the Associate Director of Cardiovascular Medicine and is affiliated with the Whitaker Cardiovascular Institute and the Boston University Nanotechnology Innovation Center. She graduated with a Doctor of Medicine degree, magna cum laude, from the University of the Philippines College of Medicine. Dr. Herrera has completed a Pediatrics Residency at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center and a Fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology at Boston Children's Hospital, Harvard Medical School. Her research focuses on understanding the molecular bases of complex diseases through translational research coupled with animal modeling to recapitulate disease phenotypes. Dr. Herrera's expertise spans basic and clinical sciences, nanotechnologies, and the design of preclinical studies relevant to therapeutic approaches for conditions such as Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer. She is the recipient of several grants from the NIH and has numerous patents related to novel therapeutic approaches. Dr. Herrera also serves as a mentor to graduate students at Boston University and participates actively in various cardiovascular research sections and review panels.
