Biography

Victoria Hughes has over 31 years of experience in clinical, educational, and leadership roles within the field of nursing. A retired colonel with 27 years of service in the United States Air Force, she possesses a rich background in mental health, working extensively with children, adolescents, adults, and families across various settings such as inpatient, partial hospitalization, and outpatient programs. Dr. Hughes is recognized for her Adult Psychiatric/Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist certification obtained in 1996 and her certification as a drug and alcohol abuse counselor in 1998. She holds a Doctor of Nursing Science degree from Louisiana State University Health Science Center, a Master’s degree in Nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, a Master’s in Counseling from Troy State University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the Medical University of South Carolina. In addition to her teaching and course development experience, including her role as dean of an associate degree health science program, she has also held various leadership positions such as the director of a nursing clinic and CEO. Her diverse publication record includes studies on resilience in nursing education, development of leadership strategies, and addressing moral injuries in nursing practice.
