Dr. Victoria Lygum

Biography

Victoria Linn Lygum is an Associate Professor at Aalborg University's Department of the Built Environment, specializing in Health Design and Smellscapes. She engages in research that applies a landscape architectural perspective to Universal Design, focusing on evidence-based design and the connection between nature and human health. Her work primarily addresses therapeutic environments for women's shelters, care homes for dementia patients, and stress clinics. Lygum investigates how olfactory parameters can influence health and wellbeing. In teaching, she has supervised MSc-level students in Inclusive Architecture at Aalborg University since 2020 and previously taught both MSc and BA-level courses in Landscape Architecture at the University of Copenhagen from 2009 to 2019. She is also active on advisory boards for various projects concerning healthy environments and has served as an external examiner at the University of Copenhagen. Lygum's qualifications include a PhD in Landscape Architecture from the University of Copenhagen and a Master of Science in Landscape Architecture. Additionally, she has contributed to multiple projects focusing on the intersection of environment and health, emphasizing sustainable development goals in her work. Her research interests encompass Architecture, Spatial Planning, Landscape Architecture, Health Design, Universal Design, Olfactory Design, Evidence-Based Design, and Therapeutic Landscapes.
