Dr. Vigjilenca Abazi

Biography

Vigjilenca Abazi is a Lecturer in Law at the Dickson Poon School of Law, King’s College London, with a focus on law technology, democratic accountability, and EU law governance. She is widely recognized as a pioneer in the field of EU whistleblower law. Vigjilenca holds a PhD and LLM from the University of Amsterdam and an LLM from Yale Law School, where she served as the LL.M. Representative on the Executive Committee. Before joining King’s College, she was a tenured Assistant Professor at Maastricht University and held resident fellowships at Yale Law School, NYU School of Law, and Columbia Law School. She has led high-impact research projects and authored five books and over 30 peer-reviewed publications. Her notable works include 'Official Secrets Oversight EU' and articles that have gained significant recognition, including those cited in landmark cases. Vigjilenca's scholarship has influenced legal policy reform, particularly in whistleblower protections, and she has provided testimony at European Parliament consultations. She also teaches subjects like data protection and cybersecurity and is a Visiting Professor at various international universities. As a co-founder of the European Whistleblowing Institute, her contributions to civic leadership have been acknowledged through recognition by the Obama Foundation and the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences.
