Biography

Vijay Garg is a Professor and holds the Cullen Trust for Higher Education Endowed Professorship in Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. He is the Director of the Parallel Distributed Systems Laboratory. He received his Bachelor's degree from the Indian Institute of Technology at Kanpur in 1984 and both his M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley in 1985 and 1988, respectively. Professor Garg is a pioneer in the field of distributed computing and has made significant contributions in areas such as global predicate detection, distributed debugging, distributed simulation, fault tolerance, distributed algorithms, and supervisory control of discrete event systems. He is the author of several influential books including 'Concurrent Distributed Computing in Java' and 'Elements of Distributed Computing', and he has co-authored 'Modeling and Control of Logical Discrete Event Systems'. In recognition of his outstanding contributions, he has been honored as an IEEE Fellow.
