Biography

Vijay Srinivas Tata is a Lecturer at Columbia Law School and has extensive experience in international financial transactions, practicing for over 20 years. He was the Chief Counsel of the Legal Vice Presidency at the World Bank from September 2004 to January 2018, where he led the Finance and Private Sector Infrastructure Development practice group, providing legal and regulatory reform support to financial sector development in emerging markets. Between April 2015 and June 2017, Mr. Tata served as a member of the Secretariat for the G-20’s Financial Stability Board in Basel, Switzerland. Prior to his role at the World Bank, he was a partner at the law firm Arnold & Porter in New York, specializing in representing foreign sovereign governments and central banks in privatizations, debt offerings, and restructurings in the international capital markets. Mr. Tata started his career as an associate at the corporate group of Davis Polk & Wardwell from 1983 to 1987. He has also held leadership positions within the American Bar Association, serving as Co-Chair of the International Commercial Transactions Committee and on the Corporation Law and Securities Law Committees of the Bar Association of the City of New York.
