Biography

Vijayananda Kundapur is a clinician and avid researcher in the field of Radiation Oncology. He developed an inclined belly board that reduces small bowel toxicity during radiation treatment. He has actively contributed to the field of hippocampal sparing radiation treatment, which aims to mitigate radiation-related side effects on the memory of patients undergoing whole brain radiation treatment. Dr. Kundapur was instrumental in establishing the SBRT LUNG SRS program in Saskatchewan and is currently working to improve outcomes in brain tumor treatments. Additionally, he invented a novel technique to generate micro-beams for linear accelerators for clinical use and has pioneered micro-beam radiation treatments for brain tumors. His development of mini beams began in 2009 and has shown impressive results in treating de-novo brain tumors in dogs through successive grants, paving the way for advancements in human brain tumor treatments. Dr. Kundapur is a member of the NIH lead working group for 'Grid, mini beam Flash Radiation treatment.' He has held various academic positions at the University of Saskatchewan, including Clinical Professor since February 2016 and Adjunct Professor at the College of Graduate Studies since 2013.
