Dr. Vijayasaradhi Setaluri

Biography

Vijayasaradhi Setaluri is a Professor in the Department of Dermatology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he has been involved in biological and biomedical research for over 40 years. He focuses on the human body's largest organ, the skin, particularly in how pigment cells can become cancerous and contribute to the development of deadly melanoma skin cancer. His research interests began during his Ph.D. studies, where he explored the mechanisms that control skin thickness and was fascinated by the continuous production of new cells in the lower epidermis, which leads to the shedding of dead layers. Setaluri is committed to research mentoring, helping to train the next generation of researchers in dermatology and skin cancer. He teaches both undergraduate and graduate-level courses, concentrating on melanoma skin cancer and continues to inspire students and trainees in this critical field.
